I am fine with our football schedule. Would like a little more difficult OOC in baseball and basketball.
Would love to see a H&H with UVA in baseball, and VCU in basketball. UVA won't happen though with current managers.

No ! Time to do away with the SECCG too. We're all about making the 4 team playoffs now.

Our non conference opponents in the past few years have been as good as anyone else in the country.
Oregon, WVU, Va Tech, TCU, Washington, UNC. Those are very good non conference opponents. And in the next few years we will play Wisconsin, Arizona St, and NC State.
And opponents have to agree to play us too. Its not like we just throw a team on the schedule and they have to play us. They have to agree to play us too. And not that many teams want to do that.
Theres a reason why our schedule is usually 1 of the hardest in the country. And its not just because we play in the SEC. Its because we schedule really good non conference opponents. And we have UF as SECE opponent.
And every year, regardless of who you play, will have a handful of cup cake games. You dont want to play a lot of big time non conference opponents when other SEC teams are playing cupcake teams and resting their players and getting younger guys some PT.

No. We play in a conference that has a number of marquee teams in it. We also play marquee OOC games every year already. Not all in Tiger Stadium, but Wisconsin, TCU, Oregon, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Washington are good enough with our SEC schedule.
When Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida, and Georgia start playing those type games, we will too.

Don't we still have OU coming up too? Or has that been cancelled. I always expected that to turn into another Cowboy Classic like TCU.

LSU - Oklahoma series was cancelled but they are going to try and reschedule it.

So at best we play them in Houston or Arlington.

You can't have it both ways. If we play more difficult schedules than we always do (consistently ranked in the top 10-15 for SOS every year) then you can forget National championships. I don't want to see or hear people nagging about us not making the big game, when we have made it even harder for ourselves. We don't take byes til the end of the year now (thanks Slime). On top of that, because of the playoff, we have to play another top team before the big game regardless.
Every year, our schedule will consist of,
- 1-3 of these teams ranked
Auburn
MSU
Ole Miss
Arky
- These ranked opponents
UF
TAMU
Bama
- One OOC ranked opponent (or at least right outside rankings)
That's without postseason play, with the inclusion of TAMU, we're talking 4-7 in a 12 game schedule. We don't need more help making it harder.
Add in the postseason, and you get
- SEC conference ranked opponent
- Playoff top 8 opponent
- The #1 or #2 ranked opponent
Our path to the Championship game will consist of at the least 7 ranked opponents in total and at most 10.

We'll play better teams and lose and the Rant would want everybody fired. National Championship teams dont play tough OOC schedules.
Posted on 1/31/14 at 5:54 pm to Tigertoo87
People forget about the top 15 teams we play like Oregon and VT.

Their non-conference schedule is fine. It's just that they schedule them all as neutral-site games instead of home-and-homes.
Posted on 1/31/14 at 6:01 pm to Tigertoo87
I would like to see the four OOC games at least be teams from major conferences. They would not all have to be elite teams but they would help the strength of schedule coming from better conferences.
Posted on 1/31/14 at 6:03 pm to Tigertoo87
What elite teams would be willing to give up their own home gate to play in TS?

In the eyes of voters? and the selection committee? I think it will.
Posted on 1/31/14 at 6:04 pm to Tigertoo87
The sad fact is, although the answer would be "yes", it's already among the toughest OOC schedules in the country.

Pittsburgh
Nevada
Bethune-Cookman
Maryland
Clemson
NC State
Miami
Wake Forest
Syracuse
Idaho
Florida
FSU's schedule this year. Win the SEC and you're in the playoff. OOC means absolutely nothing. Who does Alabama play? Colorado St? UT-Chattanooga? Georgia Southern? Its working for them id say.

Case you haven't noticed the last several national champs haven't had the toughest schedule. LSU plays a hard enough in conference schedule so I am gonna say NO.
exactly
we fricking already play Auburn, Bama, UF, aTm and Ole Miss every year
I mean jesus frick a tougher OOC schedule and we'd be so banged up that we'd likely drop an SEC game

Just, no.
Win the SEC and you're in the playoff. Point blank.
