Buga nation was a thing before he got to LSU... Does that hold any merit?

Hope this doesn't cut into my sales of purple & gold "Baton F&*$% Rouge" shirts.

I'm fairly certain that if any of the money goes in his pocket, then it's a violation.
There was a story last May that came out where a D-II basketball player had his own clothing line (He didn't use his own likeness to sell it or reference the team he played for), it was basically a poor man's nike.
He got popped by the NCAA.
ETA: Here's the article about it LINK /

Nothing wrong with it being his idea, but he cant promote or financially profit from the venture. Should be fine in his parents name. But when he scores a TD against Wisky and does the buga sign who knows?

Yeah, that can be bad...

If they can't prove he's profiting from it, who cares?

The way I see it is that someone in his family has started a clothing line. And he wears the clothes. It would be the same if the founder of UnderArmour's son played D1 football.

Michael Jordan's sons weren't allowed to wear Jordan shoes because Adidas was their school's provider.
If BugaNation signs a contract with LSU for all of its players to wear it, then it would be different.

He can't be openly advertising in the middle of a game. NCAA would bitch slap him so hard.

They weren't allowed to wear Air Jordan's during the games. I doubt that the NCAA came to their dorm/apartments and made them clear all nike gear out of their closets. Apples and oranges. BUGA is not promoting football cleats or helments or gloves.

It's a bit of an ambiguous symbol, I guess. But I don't know that they could deem that as advertising, especially if it's a symbol he's been doing since before they started selling merchandise. But I don't think anyone on this board can predict what the NCAA will do in any scenario.

And if Fournette flashes the #BugaNation sign after a touchdown in a game... then what?

That's my point. This is just an unnecessary risk it seems.

I'd imagine flashing the apparel itself under his jersey could cause issues, maybe not doing he sign.

He's still not wearing BUGA gear during games so it has nothing to do with the Athletic Dept's contract with Nike or Adidas or whoever. This is sooo different from the Jordan thing. The Jordan thing wasn't even an NCAA issue it was an Athletic Dept. issue with their Adidas contract.

I could see this being a problem (for the same contract issues as the Jordan case)

It's really not.
I'm fairly certain a player advertising for a family company in a college sanctioned event is a violation.

he's not even in college yet. it doesnt matter until then
