Let's make it all legal. No way this woman should be in jail, right? Hell, it's just a 3 year old.....

No one is advocating the legalization of poisoning children.

STRAWMAN

Someone who operates a methlab and poisons their own child to death would not be in jail on low level drug charges.

The Grateful Dead/Garcia guy is:

Drugs have always been a part of society, and they ain't going anywhere. We have more people overdosing and dying from pharmaceuticals than heroin and coke be a number of ten. Addictions to pharmaceuticals are rampant, and scripts are being written by the day for more. I'm sorry you have had a loved one become an addict, but addiction should be treated, not incarcerated. And, making drugs legal would end the black market and regulate the product like all other intoxicants and mind-altering substances. I'm not saying it's foolproof, but we cannot continue these policies of mass incarcerations. It simply is not working.Drugs are everywhere, and any time you lock up a dealer, even forever, someone in a poor community is there to take his/her place. And there will always be someone waiting in the wings.

Far from it. He's not advocating legalizing "poisoning" children.

I haven't read this whole thread. Is there any talk of a massive presidential pardon or series of pardons?

Yeah, I read that again. Never found his brave pro-child-poisoning stance taken. But hey maybe I'm missing something.

What a brilliant idea!! Now tell me just what you think all these criminals are going to do after they get out of prison? My guess is most of these people will be conducting criminal activity again like burglary to support their habits.

Rand Paul has actually spoken out in support of the administration in regards to this.

I'll give Obama credit for taking this stance. Hopefully something can be done. It amazes me at how many drug users and street dealers can get busted but you rarely see the big boss being picked up. Makes you wonder.
Also I don't believe this will catch on to quickly because the more beds filled in Prisons, the more money they receive. Also a lot of people make a living on throwing a freaking dope smoker in jail . It's sad.
