Until a few years ago I never noticed Ted Striker's drinking problem in Airplane was that he kept missing his mouth.

You wanna see something HILARIOUS - watch 1957's "Zero Hour!" with Dana Andrews, Elroy
"Crazylegs" Hirsch, Sterling Hayden (big boss in "9 to 5"),and Jerry Paris (Dick Van Dyke show)
Most of the script of "Airplane!" is taken directly ver batim from this movie; except that Zero Hour! was a suspense drama...
