if you could choose between Ariza and Aminu

I take Aminu because of his rebounding every time. On a team that has exactly one good rebounder out of the big man rotation, Aminu's skills there are vital. They move for a better frontline, Aminu becomes expendable

Again, the roster and its deployment just don't fit together. This is a small ball roster that needs Davis to play “center." In games, they do everything they can to avoid putting Davis at “center."

I certainly disagree with the idea that Davis is not and will not ever be a “center." I just have no idea how to parse what the team thinks.

I think signing Ajinca says they feel the need for at least a part time "starter" at center in the short term. Tyreke was seen as a massive talent upgrade over Robin Lopez that you couldn't pass up, and the available replacement options for Lopez were pretty rough. Think about the center market we were dealing with. We paid Stiemsma twice the minimum after getting into a bidding war over a center that hasn't played in forever.
