They are working on a carrier killer missile but who knows how legit that will be if it is ever deployed.

A regional threat in those parts is an international threat. Those two countries fighting over those damn islands are the number 2 and 3 economies in the world. They may bitch and moan about the land, but they're not going to go to the point of war.

You're idea of a threat is to myopic. They can accomplish their main goal-bolstering their position in the region while severely diminishing ours in the region-juts by retaking Taiwan.
