Orange,
Any idea why he is so late on the scene? Did he camp anywhere? Was he told to keep working by any coaches in hope of a late offer? Would he prefer a full scholarship at a small school, or try a preferred walk-on scholly earner at a bigger school? Does he want to go far from home?
You seem to have a special interest in him, so I figured you might be able to paint a clearer picture

And as far speed goes he has outrun p hillis in several races.

To be fair p hillis is 6'2 and weighs 244. He should smoke him in a race. What peyton lacks in speed he makes up for with power.
There is a sort of ratio with football. You can lack a bit of speed if you have more reaction time and power. It offsets a bit.
He will absolutely have to gain speed and add weight to play beyond college

Like everyone has said previously, I question his speed
But he has everything else you could want from a safety

Kid can ball, but he is not a FS at the next level, a strong saftey if they play him down in the box, hybrid lb/ss. Chief does like those kind of kids.

Orangelood he has definitely turned out to be a hell of a player talking bout Willis. I always say sometime a kid needs to get to college and then see them blossom to the player they could be

Chief loves making safety's lbs. zak fits the bill.

Zak Neary - Falling through the cracks
Orange,

Quite honestly he is late on the scene bc of playing in rural west tn. And not knowing the process of getting noticed. He did some camps. But thought most of them were just trying to get your $. His coach never had a kid this good and didnt know the ropes if u will of getting his name out there. They (Zak, dad, and coach) are all learning.
He has a full ride at a d2 school. They want him as a QB they think. They think he could play several positions as a freshman and think he will be d2 all American. That being said he is a competitor. He want to play big time football. He would prefere to working his arse of for a schollie as apposed to full ride somewhere smaller. That's from the horses mouth. Hillis spoke with Chavis about Zak. I think that is why there a lot of smoke right now.

And one other thing. He was born and raised in Florida. Moved to TN in 8th or 9th grade. If he would have stayed in FL he would be a 3* player with offers everywhere. And still be the same player.
And I don't think distance is a factor.

So you think when the time comes, he will be walking on at LSU?
Posted on 1/24/14 at 4:41 pm to GeauxAggie972
If offered a spot he would walk to Baton Rouge :)

In recruiting its not what u know it who u know. That's the 1 thing they learned in this whole process. 2 weeks ago it was pretty quite on the recruiting front. Zak was down on himself. His dad was feeling bad, maybe he didn't do enough to get him noticed. Even the hs coach was down. Thinking he didn't do enough. Ok. P. Hillis makes 1 call for him and the phone starts ringing. He has heard from 3 sec schools and a big 10 school in the last few days. It is an exciting time.
Me personally I'm a vol freak. I'd love to see him in orange. But I just want to see him play for 4 more yrs anywhere I can watch. Hell if he ends up at LSU ill come watch him play and may even wear purple![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icongeauxtigers.png)

Reminds me of Jacob Hester. Got better every year with hard work. Was not that fast either. But you can't teach heart and desire. Since we will have room he might be a good sleeper. At the very least a good special teams player. Moffit will make him stronger.

It's funny, some of these kind of kids come in unheralded, work their arse off and become great players and people. And prima-donna Johnny Fivestar fizzles out or flunks out in 3 yrs. well that's how it works at UT seems like anyway.
