The office will be in the downtown area. Not Katy or anything like that.

Well then if you live in the Midtown or Washington area, you can have a 5 minute commute and be close to the yuppie areas.

Downtown--cool, close to work, but expensive rent.
Midtown (actually just south of downtown)--cool area, spotty with some homeless hanging out, developing with restaurants, etc.
Rice Military/Washington Corridor: LOTS of 20 somethings, great nightlife, easy commute, still some reasonable rentals available. Prob your best bet overall.

Anywhere outside 610 loop: be prepared for at least a 30 minute commute in and out, longer if weather/wreck. Too suburban for a young single person, IMHO, but great for raising kids and being a young couple in a few years.

Ignore the a$$hats who criticize Houston--it's a very vibrant city with lots to do and lots of great job opportunity and people, and growing now like crazy. The only real hit against it is there is not much in the way of recreation other than Galveston (icky beach) and it's flat and muggy as hell in Aug-Sept.
