Very sad. Surprised you don't see more of this honestly with the way some "boxes" have people working out.
Not going to blame crossfit here. The guy was obviously in phenomenal shape and likely competing in some kind of lifting event. I just don't see why crossfit has some of its population doing similar exercises to this. Unless you're special forces or a competitive athlete I just don't see how short term benefits outweigh the long term wear and tear... Plenty of other ways to get very strong/fit with significantly less risk of long term issues than doing snatch/cleans, etc.

That sucks.
You can't blame CF for this though. This was an accident. If you look hard enough you can find injuries in any type of workout program.
I agree. You can get the same gains with less risk by doing other exercises.

exactly this. it is NOT practical and damaging in the long term.

No doubt. CF is dumb and you will see this type of thing becoming more common unless people come to their senses. And again in 30 years when all these people's bodies fall apart and we have to foot the bill for their "disabilities."
Lulz at you lazy fatties. Only in America could people be worried about individuals over-training.
Injuries happen you morons. Olympic lifting is inarguably the most effective full-body lift there is. So you don't think it's worth it to olympic lift if you're not training for a professional sport. Good for you. Some people want to look their best regardless. There's nothing wrong with that, some would applaud it.
I don't know the exact ins and outs of this injury, but I can almost guarantee there was a significant amount of personal accountability for the injured party (even though everyone will hate to say such a thing). Some are saying there were weights around the platform. If so, that's 100% on the individual lifter. I've been lifting since I was in middle school, and I'll be damned if there was ever anything on a platform I'm lifting on.
This is sad for the guy, absolutely, but people need to quit demonizing Crossfit. It's laughable.
Also, I don't Crossfit.
