In my opinion, the biggest problem is that culturally we are in a time in which more people are more concerned with their Fantasy Football Team, who will win American Idol, or who is plowing the Kardashians than the issues.
They get their political news from Facebook, Twitter or a 2 paragraph article on Yahoo, and never really weigh the candidates against each other.

If a gay marriage supporter ran for president, and also happened to advocate for extermination of all people from Mississippi, toddy would still vote for him.
