Just got my freedom and CSP in.
I signed my wife up as well thinking our names would be on one card. Low and behold they sent one for each of us. She was excited, but promptly handed it back to me for safe keeping
The freedom is a very attractive card. However the sapphire is pretty fricking cool.
Even if there are better options, I'm not sure there is a sexier credit card from a vanity perspective.
Either way it's a good start to my new credit card adventure.

Nice.
Remember, she can sign up separately for those two cards and y'all can pool the points. So when you're done reaching the bonuses on Freedom and CSP, get the same two cards again on her credit and earn the bonuses again. Make sure to put yourself as a referral on her card (5,000 point bonus).
When all is said and done, you should easily have over 100,000 points and ready to fly pretty much any where in the world in a short period of time.
Have fun

Toddy, I've got the itch. Talk me out of applying for a Barclaycard right now and make me wait my planned couple of months

First off, I'm the exact opposite of a gay Ole Miss fan.
I don't know if you need the $400 or not, but look at this as an exercise of self-control, like that one time you went 24 hours without touching yourself in 7th grade.
Waiting sure is the hardest part though, I give you that.

Every time I've replied to you by name, I've though that I was glad I didn't accidentally call you Toddy. frick
And no, I don't need the $400. I'm just not sure if that day in 7th grade ever existed...

Compressor clutch went out on my car. I can't handle that crap, so I'll probably buy a new car near the end of the year. No Barclaycard for me :/

Getting the card will probably help your score in all honesty and put your down payment on CC if they allow it. Most allow a portion.

Yeah. A new credit card should help rather than hinder the car purchase if you use it responsibly.

My debt to credit utilization is already very low. Why would getting a new card help? I figured the hard inquiry would sting.
Eta: I already have a Freedom and CSP.

Number of open accounts. Score is higher with 8 or more accounts. More open accounts being utilized properly is a great thing for your score.

I've something like twelve student loans in repayment. Do they count?

Let's put it this way.
If you're about to take out a car loan, do that first.
Barclay's is probably not going to GAF if you don't have many inquiries to begin with, and can probably get that card the next day.
Cars and homes are inquiry sensitive, credit cards not nearly as much

It just throws a wrench in my timeline. Like we discussed before, I was planning on getting a Bold in about eight months, right before my CSP hit one year. I was going to get the Barclaycard I'm a couple of months. I'm not planning on purchasing a car until November/December.
I can obviously wait to get both after the car purchase. Just annoying.

It really depends on your score. You know how many cards I've opened up in the past 9 months or so(6 I think and 4 were two months ago)Just bought my wife a new vehicle. Qualified for their best credit offer.
Especially if you're not purchasing till year end a hard pull likely wont negatively impact your score much and likely do more good in the end.

As Fro said, if your score is strong then you might be over thinking it.
I have a tendency to assume some of yall who keep posting in these threads know you need strong credit to fully participate. Disclaimers every post would be tiring.

I've been drinking wine and fully read your last post. Give me a minute to understand what I read.
Eta: ok. It you get the Barclay's in the next couple months then I highly doubt it will affect a car 8 months from now. That's a long time in the credit world.
If you need them, then Barclays, car, Chase order will work just fine.
Btw: I like to think it's related, but Chase has given me the best rates on car and house BY FAR since I started doing this. Maybe it's them being competitive, but the discrepancies are vast enough to make me think it's the business I give them.

My payment histories on all of my accounts are flawless. Debt/credit ratio is basically nill. It's simply that, being a relatively young guy, my accounts are fairly young, so I'm a bit cagey about things I know might ding my score. In ten years, I probably wouldn't give this a second thought. But, I've had little trouble getting approved for anything I've asked for in the last couple of years.
As for the need, there really isn't one for the Barclaycard. It's a solid card, $400 is nice, and damn it, I want a new card to play with

Points hoarding is a real illness. They are so easy to get yet you only have so much time to burn them. It takes a lot of self control. How I haven't applied for that 100k American Airlines card yet is a feat of strength.
