Two things:
1) I can't see Franklin signing a contract that puts him in a position where he's accountable for that much. If he did, he needs to fire his agent. Bobby Petrino won't even be on the hook for that much if he leaves UofL.
2) Do we even know that it's for that much? I could see maybe a percentage of that and a small one at that.
As I said before it's probably pretty easy to get out of something like that. Especially if Vandy didn't give an amount upfront. Otherwise they could build a facility worth twice what it is now and just say Franklin is accountable if he leaves.

It's a contract. He agreed to it. As long as the cost was not unreasonable, why would you think he could get out of it? Just because it's a large number? Just another lesson in read it before you sign.
