I think it strikes everyone as fake.

The people who make it and listen to it aren't doing any of the stuff in the songs, and moreover, the stuff described is cheesy and annoying. It's the facebook version of rural life.

Seriously, every modern country song I've heard since 2003 has been a progressively more douchebag version of "Mud on the Tires."
