If so what do you think about it? Was it worth the buy?

Alienware is great, if you want to pay 500-1000 dollars more for a pre-made product than what you could find elsewhere.

That seems really far fetched, Alienware is usually $50-300 more than a comparable spec computer.
It's like buying a Mac, you're paying extra for build quality and great support and the name.

I would never spend 3 grand on a laptop, ever.
Get a 17.3" instead of the 18, it's not really much of a difference at all and is much cheaper with equal power (minus SLi). Unless you really really want and need dual 770m's in SLi.
You could get a 17.3" maxed out with a 780m for quite a bit less.

I used to, excellent build quality and fantastic support. Worth the extra money.
I also wouldn't go any more than 16GB of RAM or you're hurting your performance more than helping it.
Unless you actually plan on having 15 heavy resource items open all at the same time you're just throwing money away.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of.

12GB of RAM would be plenty and more than enough.
I think 12GB is standard on all Alienware laptops, don't upgrade it, save yourself the $.

As long as you aren't trying to watch the movies while gaming, it shouldnt make a difference

Yeah, honestly I would get the $1499 base model Alienware 17 and upgrade the HDD to the one with the 80GB SSD caching, the screen to full HD, and 8GB RAM to 16GB since there is no 12GB option, and upgrade to the 3GB 770m GDDR5.
That will run you 2K and you're more than set.

Have we discussed why you are getting this? Do you have to have a gaming laptop?
