There's probably more truth to that in your head than there is actually IRL

Hill led LSU in carries in 2012 but he wasn't a lead back. And as i said, he was a 20 year old Freshman.

shoot, same thing dating back to justin vincent. He was 21 at the end of his FR season.

keiland was also a 20 yr old FR

hill is also basically the only guy to be lead back 2 years in a row, if memory serves

the RBs who emerged as the primary guy over the year in the modern era of LSU football:

2003: JV
2004: Alley
2005: Addai
2006: Keiland
2007: Hester
2008: Scott
2009: True RGBC...if memory serves our RBs all got hurt that year
2010: Ridley
2011: Ware
2012: Hill
2013: Hill (outlier)

there is tons of roster overlap in those years. in most (not every, admittedly) years, a formerly "talented" upperclassman RB got overshadowed by a young (perception as "talented" created) RB. this is just what has happened for a decade..through miles and saban
