I stayed in San Destin last year and the problem is you're not just sharing the beach with other people staying in your building, they have buildings stacked 3 deep then some more across on the bay side that all use the same quarter mile of beach.
I only go to San Destin for a conference. I wouldn't go there for a vacation. Where we stay in Destin the beach is never crowded and the place we stay is on the beach so you don't have to pack a bunch of stuff and haul it down the elevator through the lobby across the parking lot past all of the other condos to finally get to the boardwalk that goes on forever until you finally get your toes in sand to sit on the beach for the afternoon. I can take about 25 steps from the glass door and I'm in glorious white sand and about 25 more steps and my toes are in some of the clearest water anywhere. We love it!

Same here. Place we go is never crowded, as half of the units are not rented out (as on owner use only), the beach service is awesome (Same guy has been doing it for over 30 years) and, as an added bonus, for the time being, there is no condo next door, because they recently tore it down to make way for something newer and better. Plus, you can walk across the street for Chick Fil A and Alvin's Island, so there's that. Yes, it's older, but half of it is new, thanks to Opal, but the rest is updated, the grounds are kept up quite nicely, and you can walk out of the glass doors, through the patio and be on the beach in under a minute.
