And that's exactly why programs like Penn St and Texas are so fricking dysfunctional. They let one guy run the show for so long, he controls the program, does whatever he wants, becomes mediocre and they deal with it cause they get brainwashed.

Texas has never let its football program run the university like Penn State did.
getting rid of a 15 year coach who won a NC is never easy. And lots of teams have had a hard time finding a replacement...a lot of it is timing.
And honestly Texas' refusal to put football first is a reason why they underperform their resources.

And why are people here taking O'Brien's word as the absolute truth? There are 2 sides to a story besides one guy bitterly complaining about these mysterious 'Paterno People'.

The University wholesale cut ties with the Paterno's/Paterno name(except the library for now).

Sounds like O'Brien bit off more than he can chew with the sanctions & was ready for an excuse to bolt back to the NFL anyway. Looks like a stepping stone for him.
