I think some people are predetermined to hate it because of its premise/genre. But the show is never going to stray far from the GN. And the Governor arc is the peak of the GN. I keep hearing a lot of hipsters say it is getting stale, but Season 4 up to this point has been the best critically reviewed season so far.

I mean some people hate it "for the zombies" when that is not what it is about. Its more of a post apocalyptic western set in the American South.

And it keeps going from Macguffin to Macguffin because that is what the show is. It is full of tropes for a reason, because it is an adapted comic book full of tropes itself. It is never going to be Breaking Bad, Gimple has to adapt source material. I haven't seen a show do this good but supposedly disliked since season 1 of Glee.

Well, to be fair, Kirkman is going to keep writing the graphic novel/comics so long as he's making money. I don't necessarily mean that as a pejorative but it's more a 'day-in-the-life' type of situation. Seinfeld with zombies!

I'm inclined to agree with the consensus. My wife liking it is a testament to the character development drama. The zombies, gore and the 'rawr' are just small side elements. In my limited experience, I think I'm a fan for the long haul.
