If you watch Brees throwing in games he doesn't have elite NFL arm strength but he has a strong arm and can make long passes and get the ball into tight coverage.

Scottynola, you make a good point here. Above, I wrote that Brees couldn't have reached the WR on the bomb that beat Arky. But he does throw a hard flat 20 yard out, which is more important in the NFL. I'm often puzzled by Brees' inability to reach deep receivers when he can throw strikes on outs.

To make it in the NFL, AJ needs to take a page from Brees and learn to put his whole body into those outs. In college that's rarely needed, though.

A lot of the time I think he intentionally underthrows. Brees likes back shoulder passes more than any other QB I've seen, it's really his signature move to me. Also, as much as I hate to say it, Brees is deteriorating. He isn't the player he was 2-3 years ago, he doesn't put quite as much on the ball anymore. You look at some of his older games he was hitting Colston 50 yards out with ease. Now he struggles to drop the ball in from that distance.

AJ also didn't put anything into that throw. If you watched JJ, and people say he had great arm strength, he always seemed like he was gearing up to launch a space shuttle, but sometimes only threw it 20-30 yards. I'm pretty sure over time and development, Cam can get AJ to throw darts on passes that require them. AJ will probably be the most polished QB when he comes out.
