so we're throwing to the TE more next season?!
Yes. A lot more. First of all, it's unlikely in the extreme that both Beckham and Landry return. They were special talents, and it made sense for Mett to look for them most of the time. Without them (at least one of them), the tight ends will naturally get more looks.
Secondly, Mett had a tendency to go for the home run every time, as we all know and as he admitted. Our tight ends were open underneath a lot and Mett was throwing into double coverage deep. That was one of the few flaws that Cam really couldn't get Mett to fix.
Thirdly, Jennings doesn't have the cannon that Mett does. He has a good arm, but Mett's was probably the strongest in college football. If Jennings were to try some of the throws that Mett did this year, they would likely float and get picked off -- not to mention that he likely won't have Octopus Landry to extend a tentacle and pluck the ball away from a defender. All this means more short throws, and lots of those will be to tight ends.
Fourthly, another weakness of Mett's was his inability to put touch on his throws and refrain from throwing everything as hard as he could. Mett just isn't very good at throwing short. When we would call short passes, Mett would often overthrow the receiver. It just wasn't his thing.
So, yeah, I expect us to throw to the tight ends a lot more this year.

Yeah he had that side arm pitch to throw short. It worked but was awkward as hell. I've heard too that we will see more 3 and 4 WR sets. It fits Jennings more and he's better in a spread type O. BUT that two TE set, I formation isn't going anywhere! I can't wait to see what gameplan they have for Jenn. Hopes aren't too high though, first start and tough competition.

Didn't we have a tight end from Westlake in the past? Worked out pretty well if memory serves correct.
(Just threw that in there..a lot of the 'kids' probably don't remember DL)

we did not utilize the TE at all this season and I pray that changes going forward.
I was at the spring game this past year and the TE was thrown to more than a few times by AJ when he was in. He completed a pass to Gordon and also threw one to Neighbors out of the backfield against Arky. I would expect the same out of him this year. Yeah he threw the long pass to Dural but really his game is much more suited for short to medium passes. Expect Jacory and the other TE's to be pleased with the way they will be utilized going forward. Just my two cents.

I watched some of his tape about a month or so ago and all I could think of was two TE sets with two athletic TE with receiver hands in he and Smith. I'm talking the college version of Gronk and Hernandez (without all the broken bones and murder).
