I poster this on dhc, but havent gotten any responses

I have a stoeger m2000, and the bolt handle broke in half today hunting. I ordered another one but it wont be in until tuesday. I am going hunting monday morning, and was wondering if anyone sees a problem with using a short piece of rod to put in the hole for the bolt handle. I would take it out and put it in my pocket after I chambered the round. I would just need to load one round in the chamber, and only fire two shells everytime. This would keep me from have to actually charge the bolt throughout the day.
Would this be a problem?

Would there be an issue with the shotgun firing without anything in the hole for the bolt handle?

Does anyone know what size rod I would fit in there?

Ive had mine for 5 or 6 years and this is the first issue ive had with it. I have abused the shite out of it and this is the first thing to go wrong. But, I've read alot of bad reviews on them too. Who knows really, obviously the people that have problems are going to be more vocal than the guys that havent.

Only weird thing is mine doesn't like nitro steel shells. Im not sure if it was a bad box of shells or what, but I had 3 misfires from the one box the other day. Costed me some ducks. Ive never had a misfire with any other brand of ammo.

Shove a stick in there for the time being and keep on rolling.

It won't hurt it and you should be able to fire all three shots. After third shot the action should lock open. Insert a shell push button to close. Then add two more to the magazine.

Good point, I wasnt even thinking about the bolt locking back after the third shot.

I had my handle fall out in a rice field before and I used my knife to open it. Not the safest thing but it worked until mine other came in.

Shouldn't be a problem. I've had the 2000 for about 6 years too and beat the shite out of it. Ejector pin broke last day of the season last year so I just got the 3500 while it's being fixed. And I thought it was the shells but I had about 15 nitro steels out of one box misfire. Could be the gun now that I hear that.

Yea, I dont know whats up with the nitro steels. Ive got alot of buddies that swear by them. One friend was almost offended when I told him they were junk. I know one thing though, I won't ever try them again with this shotgun, the cheaper stuff seems to do just fine.
