Not following you... please elaborate. I realize this is not a truly "like" comparison, but in commonly available cartridges the .257 has a higher velocity and more energy.

Caveat: I am not a ballistics expert and also am a proud owner of a .308

I think the .308 is a better round for shots out to 100 yds. I just like the heavier round. I also like the shorter action on the shorter round. The barrel on a .308 is shorter as well. That all equals a lighter more manageable rifle.

These aspects make it a better all around deer rifle.

The .257 is a great round. I have one and love it. I consider it more of a bean field rifle. Meaning it's better suited for longer shots.
