I bought a 7mm when I was 13 and I hated it because of the recoil. Quickly sold it and went back to my 243. A buddy shoots the 7mm-08 and it was his first gun and he still shoots it today. I would let him shoot the 243 so he's not scared of the recoil and can make a good shot with it. I had the vanguard s2 257 weatherby mag and it was an awesome gun with very little recoil.

For some reason I don't notice recoil so much. I do notice muzzle blast. Muzzle brakes drive me crazy. I think its because I was taught to shoot "right". What I mean by that is concentration and routine. The muzzle blast from a brake just throws my concentration off and fricks up my routine. If had learned to shoot with one it probably wouldn't bother me. I think before a kid shoots any center fire they should have shot thousands of 22 rounds, but I'm an old soul.
