my stance is that i dont let the weather get in my way.
Of course i have awesome cold weather gear, a zero degree bag, and a four season tent which helps.

Yep, I'm a cheap bastard but this is where I spend some money. If you have good cold weather gear, you will not get cold.
OP, tent...yes. If the wind blows or it's precipitating this will be a blessing. You can make do with tarp, etc...but a good tent is lighter and easier to deal with.

I love it. No insects to deal with and as long as you are layered up / warm you'll sleep like an infant. I've been in the middle of combats zones out in cold weather and dreamed like MLK.
