it was said on the SECrant that the reason they were ejected was that they were chanting a coach's dead daughter's name at him. that's pretty shitty and i don't think it's pussification for throwing them out. i love poor taste, but that is a little too much.

When Steve Kerr was playing for Arizona, Arizona State fans chanted "P-L-O, where's your dad?" Kerr's dad was president of American University in Beirut and had been assassinated by terrorists.

ETA, and FWIW, I sit in the NEZ directly across from the student section. I never noticed the STTDB chant or any of the others until people started making an issue of it. This is something the administration won't win without doing something drastic that will be far out of proportion to a silly chant and will make the students seem like martyrs in a lot of people's eyes.

Nonsense. No one will be a martyr in anyone's eyes for something stupid like this. There won't be any riots. It will play out just like it has for the Chicago Bulls. Until proven otherwise I will give the students enough credit that they are at least as smart as the average Chicagoan. If LSU wants to clean this up (which it does) it will take it step-by-step (like it is already doing). If it comes to ejecting the non-compliant students from the game, the university will do that. If a particular student is stupid enough to resist the ejection, he will be brought up on disciplinary charges and it will go on his academic record. If several students violently resist (and does anyone really think this is going to happen?) they will be arrested and brought up on criminal charges. I guarantee the judge will have no sympathy. You don't have a right to scream obscenities at a university function. If the university asks you to stop (for whatever reason) you should stop. I don't understand why this is so hard.

You must have been driving in heavy traffic while you were writing this, and couldn't come up with anything better.
