spend a little more and get a bench made
For folders, for sure. I was going to recommend the fixed blade Nimravus to the OP, but I forget that $100 or so is the military price - off the street, they run $160 or so.
My Presidio (I should specify here - I have the original Presidio in 154cm - they also sell the cheaper Presidio Ultra, which is 440c - I'm sure it is a good knife, but I don't buy Benchmade to get 440c steel) folder is more heavily engineered than any mass produced knife I have used. I've cut everything with it for over 4 years and it remains solid. When I need to go heavier, I have a fixed blade Nimravus.
But, the Kabar is a good choice for under $100, as is the Seal Pup - I have a copy of the original, massive Seal SOG knife (I think they called it the Seal 2000). It has a little piece of the blade nicked off cutting off the shoulder of a wild boar in Kosovo (I hope nobody ate that piece of metal - I didn't notice until we washed the knife later.) Only problem with it and the Kabar is that the 7" knives are almost too big to carry regularly.
Of course the Benchmade Presidio folder is heavy as all get out. But in the long run, with a knife, that's a good thing.
