How many remember the teams of the 50's and the Chinese Bandits, the '60 Sugarbowl game with old Miss, etc?

Those people are too old for computers.

my grandmother used to tell me stories about these days. She wasn't the biggest football fan but she said the excitement around baton rouge was huge and everywhere you went that's all people wanted to talk about. She used to go to the games with my grandfather. He would wear a suit and she would wear a nice evening dress. She thought it was a shame that games had become so casual, blamed the hippies

I do. I started going to games in '58. Family had just moved back to BR. Got spoiled quickly.
OM was a force back then. We beat hem during the reg season in 59, 7-3, on Cannon's famous Halloween Punt return. Rematch game was a 21-0 loss.( sound familiar).
Bandits were crowd favorites. Really third stringers who bought into the roll of mean n nasty gang tacklers.
No one tailgated, crowds were loud, and stayed to the end.
Oh, and who am I and how did I get here?

Actually, I did not live in Louisiana then, but am old enough to remember and was a fan. In the college football world, those LSU teams were famous nation wide.

quote:I was a 14 yr old sitting on the 10 yard line (east side) on the night Cannon did his 89yd punt return - it was a fun time riding back to Mandeville - with my dad and my Ole Miss educated uncle - did not attend the rematch in the Sugar Bowl - however, the rematch with bama for the NCS reminded me a lot of the 60 Sugar Bowl.
