Question: So it says if it gets out of distance with your phone, that it shuts down so it can't be used or whatnot; so what happens when you go to a big restaurant and the waitress takes your card to run it? Do you have to give her your phone too, so the too are within proximity?

I think I read this feature can go 80 feet.
Any more than that, then yes.
ETA: I found what I had read about earlier this year.

It only shuts down after a period of time being away from the phone. So if you set it for 10 minutes, you'll not have that issue.
