I'm almost starting to feel sorry for Bear Bryant at this point. If Bama wins the title this year Saban will have accomplished the 3 pete Bryant never did, and will have more than one national title for every two years he's been at Bama (4/7). Bryant had slightly less one title for every four years at Bama (6/25). I sense a Saban-Bryant-Denny stadium in the future. EDIT- Though thanks to LSU, Saban has a lower SEC Championship rate, even presuming Bama wins it this year - that's "only" 3/7, as opposed to Bryant's 13/25. The SEC was smaller back then though.
I think we are splitting hairs here. Both are legends. Sure, Saban only lost less than 3 games at lsu 1 time in 5 season but he is remarkable at bama. I will point out though, that politics all play a significant role in the comparison. Saban should not have the 2011 title. That was horseshite and everyone knows it. At the same time i am not positive but would say confidently that bear claimed a title or 2 with other unbeatens the same year that have an argument. This is the problem with college football. There is never a true champion and won't be until a deep playoff is implemented like in FCS (8-16 teams). Otherwise, the most political and corrupt schools will keep claiming titles.
