...there's a reason a large portion of professional sports team fans are uneducated and so crazy passionate. They have not been successful and try to replace it with their team's success on the field of play.

Actually, its the exact opposite. It is so called "negatigers". The ones that are so crazy passionate, they meltdown after every loss and call for Chief's head for every first down given up.
