So if Miles were to be hired in 2000, do you believe he would be as successful as he is today? I would say no. Here is the deal sunshine. When you get handed the keys to the fastest latest greatest car, you're gonna win most races. You're acting as if Nick Saban wouldn't do the same thing and you're right. He would do more! Les Miles didn't build anything here bro, it was built. Bobby Bowden started from scratch and built FSU from the ground up. Eventually after he got up in age, FSU fell off a little, but that happens. So please don't insult Bobby Bowden by comparing him and CLM. arse clown

All because of a few close losses each year people think he is an idiot.

It's who he loses to and how he loses! It's his clock management skills! It's underperforming against lesser competition, Tennessee 2010 classic example of poor clock management and underperforming against lesser competition. It's running option right a million times against Bama 1/9/12, emberassing the crap out of the program on the biggest stage. It's letting Lee stand on the sideline with his helmet on warming up the whole 2nd half of that game, believing he was gonna get a fair opportunity to play because JJ was a cluster frick in that game. This and much more is why half the fan base doesn't like him.

To be fair, Bowden was probably FSU's second HC. The first one, last name Petersen, took FSU to the inaugural Peach Bowl to play a certain team from Baton Rouge. And that certain team (LSU) beat Petersen's FSU in it. Bowden came to FSU later and built on what was already a decent foundation.

You people are retarded. The standard by which you measure a good coach should not be how he compares to Nick Saban. Nick has made an argument to be the greatest of all time. Just because Les isn't on Nick's level doesn't mean he's not a great coach. He's got wins; he's got championships; he's got great recruiting classes. Nick deserves a lot of credit for where LSU is today but not freaking all of it. There are plenty of guys who would have fricked it up. Ask Florida about the guy right after Spurrier and the guy right after Meyer. What does BAMA say about every body after Stallings til nick showed up. UT is still looking for another fulmer. Guys like Les and Stoops may not be on Nick's level but they are still better than just about everyone else. GTFO

I'm a pretty big Tiger fan, but "fastest latest greatest car" is a tad of a reach in describing LSU football of 02, 03, and 04.

We had 9 L's in that period, one Top 10 team, and one yr with more than 10 wins. We won the BCS in the middle yr, but the other two don't equate to any "fastest latest greatest car" to me.

Taking over for Nick and leading LSU football to its greatest 8+ run in LSU history speaks pretty highly of Les Miles whether or not some on here want to admit it.

Sure. Look at what he did at Okie St. He had a better record there than JIMMY JOHNSON. And he built a foundation that Gundy was able to build on. People act like LSU was his first job and he wasn't spectacularly successful before he got here. And, in way, he was the Saban of OSU and Gundy is the Miles. Miles has been cast in both roles. And succeeded at both.
