Mr Bond was not fictional at all in fact. He was the real life neighbor of the novelist who created the Bond novels. He was an ornithologist and the name was chosen out of the ease of making up the character. The success of the Bond novels was based in the fact that the author had himself been a spy behind enemy lines with the French underground as was(drum roll) Julia Child.
