To have any chance in this game, we have to put constant pressure on AJ (Stunts, blitzes, etc.). We can not get pressure on the QB just rushing 4. If we don't put pressure, it will wind up being 3rd and Chavis all night and we will get beat. Learn from your mistakes Chief....

And before you all say, "well we blitzed with one minute to go last year against Bama and look what happened".....we have no chance in this game if we come out in that non-aggressive soft zone BS.

McCarron has had some amazing O-lines to play behind, i honestly feel if the little punk had to run a little bit and make tough decisions that he would throw alot of pics

Chavis is in a predicament.

The D isn't smart enough to play zone and they are talented enough to play man.

If that's the key, we might as well call off the game now. LSU has not been good blitzing all year.

I hope the key is something else.

The only way we get pressure is to blitz a DB. Thomas is much faster at getting to the qb than Eugene or Mills. Better get to him quick because McCarron is a good one who will find the open window.

We can't get pressure on anyone, what makes you think it's going to change against their massive o line?

Keys to the Bama game:

Tackle their players.
Score more points.
Block well.
Run well.
Pass well.
Hope they do all those things worse than we do.
Punt better.
Kick better.
Keep the ball.
Take the ball from them.
All at once would be nice but not entirely required.

Anything else?

D line and linebackers looked great against florida. I think they have to be mentally prepared. Same with the O line. We manhandled florida's defense, just like ole miss manhandled us because we weren't up for the game.

I think we'll see a lot of short routes across the middle (hint: tight ends). We've been throwing almost everything deep. I gotta believe Cam and Les have a few surprises just like last years 2nd half passing game.

The key is for our Offense to control the ball and keep AJ and his tats on the sideline

Convert 3rd downs

And TRY to at least get a few 3rd down stops on D

Pressure on Mccarron won't be enough, it's the running game that has to be stopped. If you let yield on and drake run up and down the field they won't need AJ.

Look at the old film of one of the few games Dinardo did well....the '97 Florida game.... gotta sell out with pressure on their QB...usually that makes our DL tired by 3rd quarter... but with creative blitz packages and fresh D-Line, it can work into the 4th quarter; I'm talking about "platooning/subbing" a group of 3 or 4 new DL all at once...even if nobody has heard of them before or they are not starters.. Now, for all the experts on here who say "we have no depth at DL..." you are correct...BUT, that '97 Florida game worked b/c even though they weren't ready or talented or SEC D-Line material, the sub packages had FRESH LEGS in the 4th quarter...and that is enough to keep the pressure on AJ and give us a chance....

With just a bit of pressure on an opposing QB, our defensive backs, as young as they are, have a chance...

Ok, I'm gonna get flamed here and called stupid, but hell, at this point I'm grasping at straws on how to keep us in the game into the 4th quarter to give us a chance...

If the key to beating Bama is getting pressure on McCarron, then we are in trouble. Our front four has been unable to put pressure on QBs the entire season. Alabama has only given up seven sacks for 43 yards. Bama's offense is geared towards counteracting pas rush and blitzing with short to intermediate passing, a bruising running game, well-balanced ratio of run to pass, and a QB who does not make many mistakes. McCarron has only thrown 3 INTs. I do not see us putting consistent pressure on McCarron this game.

There is no single "key" to beating Bama. You have to play solid in all phases of the game for 60 minutes. Therein lies the problem, as we have a mediocre defense, especially up the middle and at safety. You can expect Saban to attempt to exploit these weaknesses over and over.

As I wrote in another thread, I believe one of the major keys to beating Bama is to limit "3 and outs" on offense. Saban's defensive philosophy is to go all out with pressure and challenge the opposing offense to get a quick stop, flip the field on a punt, and force the opposing defense back on the field after 3 plays. I understand that this the goal of every defense, but Bama is the best at doing it. Unless our offense creates first downs, Bama's style of play will wear down our defense quickly. Our only chance to win is to sustain multiple drives that keep our defense off the field. I believe if we have a 25/20 TOP advantage and NO TURNOVERS going into the 4th quarter, then anything can happen and we have a chance to pull it out in a close game, like we did in 2011.

It is a myth that we have not been blitzing on 3rd down this year.

the key, as always, is the oline making holes and getting to the second level for the rb's, keeping Mett upright and on spot, sustaining drives, executing redzone offense and keeping our defense off the field.

defensive pressure on McCarron from our frontline would be huge but it is nothing we can count on so, as you say, we have to get creative. frankly, I think stopping the run is more important than worrying about how to trick McCarron. JMO.

get rested, get better, get ready...get even.

McCarron is the anti-Manziel. He is very good when he can execute the play that is called. He falls apart if his first option is taken away, and he gets pressure. That is what sucked about last year's game. We let him have the first option during the last possessions of the both halves. Alabama scored touchdowns on both of those possessions while they did very little on their other possessions when LSU played tight coverage on Alabama receivers and got after McCarron.

How do you get pressure on AJ with thirst defenders when we couldn't do it with the talent we use to have?

Blitz 85% of the plays

Man coverage all night

Corners on press every single gat damned play

Linebackers hit the quarterback on every pass play

Defensive linemen be sure to sit on the running back's face on every run play

LSU 75
Bama 0
