That thing looks pretty badass. If they ever build it they should keep the Georgia Dome there for Motorcross, MonsterJam, Professional Bullriding. shite like that so they can have those events year round and bring in more money.

Escapism?
For a few brief hours on Sunday - everyone can suspend belief inside that brand new stadium...that they're not in ATL anymore.

Studies have shown that using public money to finance stadiums is a bad investment.
quote:
The funding for the new Atlanta stadium is a model example of a public-private partnership. Private funding will cover approximately 70-80% of the stadium’s construction costs. In addition, the Falcons will take on construction cost overruns as well as operating and capital risks currently borne by the Georgia World Congress Center for the Georgia Dome, which relieves the state of these potential liabilities.
The remaining 20-30% of the cost of the new stadium will be publicly funded by the existing hotel-motel tax, which is paid by visitors. This is the same funding that has been used to fund the debt on the Georgia Dome for the past 20 years.

Yeah, it's not like it's ever hosted one of the largest sporting events in the world or anything like that.

I think he was going with the Fenway, Candlestick, Lambo field type of thing. No one says "I want to see the superdome!"

Gotcha. I try to avoid ATL-NO pissing matches, I guess I should have read further into the context. It really is a pretty marvelous structure. Not exactly picturesque, though.

I hear ya, I like the radical architecture, but can also appreciate the very cool traditional stadiums.
I didnt start the thread to start an ATL-NO pissing match, but I knew full well it probably would.

People overreact to what stadiums look like on the outside. - like the new Niners stadium.
It's about what they're offering for the fan experience on the inside.
Owners are having to offer something that draws people away from the comforts of their HD TV Redzone living room.

Pretty sure they didn't host it because it was the Superdome. They had it there because it was in New Orleans.

And weather was assured.
NFL loved indoor stadiums for this for Super Bowls.

This is correct, they are doing tons for the inside experience. Looks pretty exciting as a fan.

If you say so, but I think I interact with a lot more opposing fans than you
People care about atmosphere. Saints are well known to have a good atmosphere.

Nobody likes the Superdome except for Saints fans. It's not exactly the Rose Bowl or Fenway like they for some reason make it out to be.

You are going to need to clarify this.

Plenty of people want to see the Superdome. Just because you don't dig it doesn't mean the rest of the world agrees with you.
