Normally I would agree with you, but most of the other teams in the League are in the same country and none of the ones I have checked (Kings, Rockets, Knicks, Lakers, Pacers, Bobcats) practice this, so it certainly not a normal thing for the NBA.

The Pelicans, Nets and two other teams all have stores run by Adidas. I assume that they can do this because they're not worried about losing money on product that doesn't move.

Under the old regime, whomever ran the store would buy the product from a wholesaler. Anything that didn't sell, they would have to sell on clearance or sell back to wholesaler at ridiculously cheap price. They would lose money.

Adidas doesn't have to worry about buying from a wholesale market. If the product doesn't sell, they can easily sell it to Marshall's or TJ Maxx at a price that still covers the cost and still gain a profit.

Didn't matter what the markup was last night. That place was packed. And I got a shirt for 40 and didnt care.
