Interesting thing I saw after LSU game

When I was walking out of the stadium after the LSU vs. Florida game last Saturday, I noticed a funny thing. The referees from the game were being escorted by what looked like the sheriff's department into these vans pretty quickly. They looked like prisoner escort vans or something like that, but they were basically being rushed into these vans and driven off. Lol, I'm guessing this is standard procedure? Even though the home team won the game, are the refs always rushed out of the stadium by armed guards into vans and driven off? I guess these days, it's a safe precaution.

Did the vans have Bama plates?

That's what I figured lol, I mean, these days, it's probably best because you never know, and the refs are always easy targets for blame when a team loses.

Are you sure they weren't being escorted by Covington PD?

Yes. This has been going on after games for as long as I can remember. All it takes is one idiot

This is also true for high school officials. When I was an umpire, it was either my or the referee's job, depending on which way we were facing, to locate the police escort at the back of the endzone near the van. If there was none there, we called an officials time out until they arrived. This was done with about 1 minute left on the clock.

it's also so they don't have to sit in traffic.

This. They get a police escort to the airport if they are trying to catch a flight out of town that night.

They can't leave at halftime to beat the traffic, so it would be unfair if they didn't get an escort
