i get what you're saying, but usually a backup comes in by 1) design 2) injury (in which case he has time to warm up). backup probably wasn't even ready to come in on a ticking play clock. i know he's coming in to handoff but still. most subs are ready or are told to be ready. they had no plan to use backup then.
making them take knees is punishing the whole class for something they went along with.
