On a serious note, I think jam bands care about their fans more than the average band.
While I think they care more than a band on a major label who just views their fans as a bunch of stupid marks who will hand over their money (I'm looking at you, Kings of Leon), almost any band or artist not on a major label depends on their fan support, and cares about them deeply. Even when former indie bands "graduate" to the najors, many of them still work hard for their fan bases.
Fugazi, for example, never sold an album for more than $10, would only play all ages shows so everyone could get in, and refused to play venues that had high ticket prices. I'd be willing to bet they never played a gig with tickets higher than $15.

The wookies have nothing on us parrot heads. You don't have to be a frat boy or on LSD to go to a Buffett show
