We've only got 10 seconds and that's not enough time to check. I can't tell you how many times I dropped out of Mesa 1 when guys had ordinary heroes as their top hero.
Out of all the attempts I've been in I haven't been in a group that got the Boss to 1/2 health yet.
Anyone care to explain what Merits are?

I find that there is enough time to check. I can click on the three other people and get an idea to their strength level before backing out if necessary.
All I really look for anyway is if someone else has a PD, then I stick around.
I agree about the ordinary heroes, they really need to put a higher might cap on the Mesas. I just back out and rejoin until I get a decent group if I'm not doing it after the nightly boss battle with the guild.

Merits
They basically are just a new type of currency that allows you to shop at the warehouse.
From the comments about buying items from the warehouse with merits:

Legend card: You might need this if you roll like I do where the roll only heroes are concerned. It's costly but if you only buy the gem saving cards you'll slowly build up enough to buy one. Shards are nice if you really need them but everyone really needs a pumpkin duke.

We tried the stone Mesa 1 after te boss fight last night and were doing good until the PD got killed. Then that was all she wrote. It's kind of rediculous.

Isn't this card just a purple hero with the same odds as rolling with gems? (still just a miniscule change of getting PD with it)

With my merits I have only gone for shards. Shards seems to be the long pole now in the various currencies. Still needs lots to get to 9/9. You can get hb relatively easy now.

Yes but at least you're taking the blues and greens out of the chances.

So my current clan is 2 people with 2 alts each. We can beat Boss 1 every day, and Boss 2 except it's not worth the 300 gems per day for Boss 2.
Are there better rewards from doing Mesas and Torch battles rather than a guaranteed 3500 HB every day from Boss 1?

Yeah. I've got a ton of gems saved up to roll talents. I'm thinking AC for high level arena defense. Even though I don't plan on using AC in any other area really.

But also I think that's the best way to beat PD in hero trials, too. They all come barreling into AC and off themselves.

The 10 seconds to check out your opponents is quite the cluster.
Everyone's clicking on other squares to check out the team and end up moving their guys around and I'm not about to enter a Mesa 1 fight with everyone not in the bottom corner.
I can seriously join over 100 teams with no luck between all the guys with ordinary heroes trying and people accidently moving around and cancelling out.

This exact thing has happened to me several times. This morning four random people, me and another player had legendaries all around level 100 and he had a PD. The other two players had ordinary heroes around level 60. They got smoked almost immediately and the two of us made it until the PD got killed. You would think the game developers would have done a better job of not making this a complete cluster frick.

I would guess the tuned it like that on purpose to get more people to purchase gems for attempts at PD. It sucks for us poor folk, but it is what it is.
