I almost feel like I need to apologize. The sound tonight is just the worst.

It really is a shame. I enjoy both Joy Formidable and Passion Pit's material, and you could tell that the performance was there for both bands. Really unfortunate the house mix didn't do either band justice.
Venue has loads of potential too.

They calmed the sound down after The Joy Formidable. I have to wonder if it was the band's idea to crank it to 11. They sounded like absolute mud. The extreme loudness coupled with the those annoying strobe lights were enough to make anyone run for the door wretching. Bad musical act anyway.
The sound was adjusted to a bearable level for Passion Pit, but some of their songs sounded off key ("Take a Walk"). Didn't help that the singer had an obvious cold either.
Crowd was pretty douchey too.

Realized i might be to old for the show when the girl next to me said.. This band is like totally my favorite band, even more the Justin Timberlake.
The sound was pretty bad, especially on the floor. I escaped the ridiculously packed floor for the 3rd floor balcony and could here the vocals better.

We should've gone to the third floor. I was on the second-floor, behind tweedle dee, tweedle dum, and tweedle dummer, who stood in front of us the whole time while glued to their cell phones. Who happened to be adjacent to the most loudmouth, obnoxious drunk chick I've been around in a long time. Who just happened to be friends with an equally obnoxiously loud douchepack of dudes with hipster facial hair.
I hope all of that says more about them than my age.

There are other synthpop groups that I like, but I still think Gossamer is a solid album. I find Chvrches a bit silly, and I've become bored with The Knife. Better groups out there now.

I keep reading people saying that, but I thought they were fine with the exception of the aforementioned out-of-tune "Take a Walk."

Not sure what you mean. He said he was suffering from a cold and it certainly sounded that way when he spoke. I really didn't notice much amiss with his singing.

every time I hear people talk about passion pit and defending them live, they say he had a cold
Michael Angelakos is just not a good live singer. Sounds great in the studio though.

Oh, ok. I didn't know his history with live performances. When I go to any live music event, it's pretty much a given to me that the artists aren't going to sound as good as their production recordings. I can overlook a lot of things while focusing on the entirety of the experience. In that regard, they put on a good show to me (I've seen my share over a couple of decades).
Thanks for the link. Checking it out now.

sick again in birmingham last week apparently

I wasn't impressed with his vocals live

There was one thing holding the Boston frontman (and, by association, the band itself) back, though – his voice wasn't at its usual capacity. Angelakos' vocals are fueled by a powerful falsetto, but on this night, the power seemed to be lacking.
Halfway through the show, Angelakos came clean about his struggles. "How many of you suffer from allergies?" he asked. "I woke up this morning and I had no voice. I'm somehow making it through this show."
He did indeed make it through the show, to his credit. But after the band played "Sleepyhead," their breakout song from their 2008 EP "Chunk of Change," and returned to the stage for their encore, Angelakos sounded like his vocal chords were running on empty.

I haven't known many who could match their recording sessions. I think the roughness is part of the live musical experience though.
Give me some examples of artists you feel match their recordings so I have an idea of what page we're on.
