Does this logic apply to cities also? Do I have to root for the Texans now or can I still wear my black and gold every Sunday?

Nah, just college, not NFL. If you have a legit connection to your NFL team, you're good for life.
I love how mad people get at my position on this. I'm not correspondingly mad at people who think the opposite of me, I just find them odd. It really pisses folks off here, though.
