we really need that diversity with our personnel as well.

Even with Harper out, we are still playing 4 safeties more than we are playing 3 linebackers. We are using 4 down linemen more than 3 down linemen. We aren't 3-4 or 4-2-5 team, we are a whatever works best with who is available and who we are against team and that is awesome.

the Amoeba Defense name applies appropriately IMO

ya never know what combo of players will be out there, where they will line up, or what role they will perform on any given play.

Allowing players to utilize their instincts over thinking and responding has to be a lot more fun to play in. If ya want aggression constant zone won't get it.

Funny to me is this- For Spags scheme it was predicated on creating pressure with the front 4 and little blitzing. The rush was abysmal and the DBs were stretched beyond limits. Now we go Amoeba with guys all over the place. Somehow now we are clearly seeing more pass rush/pressure from the lineman primarily... kinda what was needed last year.

The essence of success so far to me is designing the scheme around the players versus trying to make them fit the scheme (round holes/square pegs).
