I'm looking for bright spots on this defense - I'm not trying to be overly negative - I am a bonafide Positiger.

However, Jordan Allen, Kwon Alexander and Barrow appear to be our only playmakers on defense. For all the criticism of Welter - he doesn't seem any worse than any of the other players in other position groups, other than the three I named at the top.

None of the corners look solid in coverage (certainly not against UGA) - the safety play has never really gotten above a C minus all season, and the line cannot get effective pressure OR penetration. There is no position group that is a strength on defense and there is no synergy between the line and linebacking corps OR between the corners and safeties. There is no strength upon which to rely, so we basically give up whatever the opposing offense wants to run - unless we have a significant talent advantage.

Having said that - UGA looks to be as complete and near NFL level offense as is run in college now - if I'm going to lose to a team, I prefer losing to an offense like UGA's - none of that spread crap (they did run a little tempo, but that doesn't bother me) - they line up and run off-tackle, counters, play action, draws, normal stuff out of the I, variants of the I and regular shotgun.

Our defense is not nearly as good as the past 2 years, there are few playmakers, little experience and lots of youth. There is not enough season to make this right, barring some miracle by Chavis.
