This seems more anecdotal than factual.

You might be right. I can't prove those those reasons contribute to declining attendance.

It seems like many people enjoy the social aspect of the tailgate than the actual game. And I can understand that to an extent. Hell, I have family members who tailgate for every game but rarely actually go into the stadium for the game, or if they do they stay for one quarter or so then go back out and continue tailgating outside the stadium while watching the game on TV or listening to it on the radio. Anecdotal, I know. But still interesting to consider.

We may not be able to even point to reasons why attendance may decline, but we'll be able to point to attendance numbers and see if it is really happening.

LSU made a critical error in encouraging the excessive tailgating culture. Now it's causing a mess on campus and hurting the atmosphere inside the stadium. But it's ingrained and will be hard to scale back or eradicate.
