For example, I would be fine with expanded background checks if we could legally purchase a fully automatic weapon, provided we pass said background checks.
What exactly is an "expanded" background check though? Does that mean they also have to do a check on your family members or your best friends?
If you're referring to the purposely-named "universal backgground checks" you must not realize that it is only enforceable by an all out registration. How would they be able to know if you actually had an NICS check to pass down that old 1911 to your son? Unless it's registered they won't have a clue, thus making the "universal" checks entirely worthless. And if we can't enforce the laws we already have, I see no reason why we should stack the already-stacked books.
And I don't just say no to registration... I say HELL no. While Obamacare may destroy this country, I will not budge on a constitutional right. If the SHTF and I'm left with very little, that gun could be the difference between me living or dying. And I know this statement makes me sound like a nutjob but just think about Louisiana post-Katrina. It is entirely possible.
The 48 hour rule I maybe could live with if it happened during the work week. But not on the weekend.

You damn right its possible. Have you ever seen some Black Friday Youtube videos of swarms of people fighting each other just to save something like 20 to 30 bucks on some toy for their child on Christmas. Now what if the economy/dollar collapses, and those same peoples children are starving. How do they react? 100x worse then they do in those Black Friday videos.
