I think Mills will be fine.

Yes, this is trending towards a smaller defense right now. I think Welter will be replaced.

I think Beckwith will play mostly DE, not LB.

I think Kwon, Lamin, Tahj, LLouis, Debo will see most of the snaps.

We are also going to be light at the other CB spot because of the freshmen that will likely bump Collins a lot for playing time.

We all know Chavis will never sacrifice speed for size. What I think he's trying to do now is find that right mix of aggressiveness, ability to shed blocks, and ability to recognize the play. The young guys are better than some of the older guys at all of that except the latter. That will take time.

LSU is gearing up, imo, to beat A&M with speed and aggressiveness. They will take their chances with Bama this year with that "light" defense against Bama's traditional offense because LSU's offense has a better chance at keeping pace than in years past. Just my opinion.

btw, it'd be interesting to do a side-by-side comparison of weights between this current lineup vs 2012's defense.

and also between the fan "ideal" lineup (Kwon, etc.) vs 2012's defense.

I'd do it, but I'm too busy making OT-type money.

I don't think Chavis is planning for any one offense or type of offense. he's gonna run the same D he always has, which is versatile enough in its scheme to pretty much match up to anything opponents throw at us.

ultimately, we're just going thru growing pains. we lost a lot of guys and gotta get everybody on the same page. even the 03 defense was still figuring itself out a few games into the season (at one point Laron was a CB and T Daniels the FS).

Well that is in direct conflict with where Miles stated they are going to work with him and that is the Mike position. Which is exactly where I think he should be. 6'3in, 240lbs and fast, going sideline to sideline I am thinking another Darry or Kevin Minter.

Unfortunately it is A&M, Ole Piss and Auburn with the spread. Personally I like the smash mouth stout defensive football, I know the 9-6 game like 2 years ago at Bama is boring to some but to me I love it.

I call BS.
Our DEs are bigger
Our DTs are the same size
Our LBs are about the same size except Welter (231 is 15 lbs lighter than Minter)
Our DBs are the same size
