Free tuition, room/board, meal plans, tutoring, and having your degree paved out for you in the easiest way possible isnt enough?

They bring in way more than they get. Exponentially.
They also work more than any student trying to pay their way.

That argument doesn't float.

Just 23 of 228 athletics departments at NCAA Division I public schools generated enough money on their own to cover their expenses in 2012.

Everybody worries that guys like JF at ATM are being used. What about the 3rd string DB that will NEVER make the NFL. If he's there 4 to 5 years, He's provided an education, food, room and board, contacts, and connections we could only dream of. I'm still paying student loans, all these years later. So save that crap. It's their own fault for not taking advantage of everything provided for there time and commitment.

You are kidding right? You are going to bring in that stale argument?

What you seemed to be forgetting is this is supposed to be about education!! What they are getting in return for their services is the opportunity to get a free education, over a 4 year time frame "assuming you stay until graduation" at a school like Cal-Berkley or Stanford you are talking $200,000 in the form of a payment as free tuition. Each school is different I admit but the value of a diploma in the work place is different also.

You couple that free tuition "room & board need to be added also" on top of the potential of what the diploma will earn you over and above a high school education. And that is why you play football or any other sport in college. You also have the outside possibility that you can turn that sport you play into a profession "NFL, NBA, MLB etc...." but the reason you go to college is to get an education.

Look at the graphs in this link, that will show you the difference between having a college education and not. This is why you go to school for free and play sports for the school, to get this type of advantage in life after college!!!
