I just finished rewatching all 6 seasons of the Sopranos. For all their greatness, the really suffer have some of the same criticisms and same plot points:

1. Both Main Characters have associates they treat as sons, while neglecting their actual sons.

2. They attempt to build some drama/story around the sons but fail and repeat themselves. Junior eats breakfast and whines about being neglected/kept in dark. A.J battles depression and can't find an identity. It's same rinse repeat arcs for them.

3. Both fathers try to substitute being fathers with materialistic nonsense.

4. Both Mothers are over involved and materialistic. If they are occupied with a "career" they cause less problems. Also, care more about others opinions and superficially place value on family.

5. Tony and Walt manage to commit crime under the same guise of family.

6. One is a formal O.C. The other is a loose drug gang with structure.

7. Both main characters are battling an illness. Walt Cancer. Tony Mental Health.

8. Each main character is extremely smart but underestimated by their opponents.

9. Every character around them actually hates them or eventually resents them.

10. At their core, both characters are pure antithesis of evil.

It's pretty much an identical show in some aspects and at minimum have parallels.
