Spurrier said as part of the interview he had to speak with a state representative.

The State Rep was Donald Ray Kinnard who also worked at LSU.
I remember it very well. Spurrier showed up and spend three or four days lobbying for the job.
My friends inside the AD office told me there was great concern that at first chance Spurrier would bolt for Florida. That is why he was not hired.
Mike Archer was the golden boy of Arnsparger as well.
Mike was a good guy but not ready for Primetime...as I recall this was the beginning of the end for Bob Broadhead.
Arnsparger was a great HC but was a devout a-hole..
