you can thank the great eddie robinson for neutral games now days, especially the cowboys classic. one of the big wigs from the cowboys was at a fundraiser for the legendary grambling st head coach eddie robinson's foundation.

I did not know this, until I read the article in the newstar about 7 years ago. The speaker at this fundraiser talked about how eddie robinson was able to lock up deals for neutral site games as early as 1960 for his team to play other teams at a neutral site. grambling only played 1 game at home back then and that was homecoming. grambling became a staple around the country playing at these big pro stadiums, and he said it was big in recruiting. After going to NYC, LA, Chicago and Miami on a regular basis the recruits started pouring in from those cities. Eddie Robinson asked Alabama, LSU, Penn St., Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma for games in the 60s to mid 70s at a neutral site, and of course they all refused. Grambling St. played in historic stadiums all over the USA including Japan Those stadiums included yankee stadium, rose bowl, superdome, orange bowl, kingdome, legion field, soldier field, korakeun stadium (tokyo, japan), rca dome, texas stadium, astrodome, silverdome, LA coliseum & cotton bowl.

The thing that stuck was, these was yearly events and grambling football plus the marching band was the 1st school to make a regular season neutal site stadium a million dollars (not including bowl games). Then the names were born state farm bayou classic & coca cola football classic.

This guy goes to jerry jones with the idea of a cowboys classic that starts the cfb season. These games will never stop they will only get bigger. you can look for LSU to give up 2 home games a year to neutral sites in the future and they will be playing 4 neutral site games a year soon after that.

LSU makes 3 mill per home game, they went to dallas vs oregon and made 3.5 mill while oregon took 2 mill. last year bamma and michigan split 4.7 mill. Look foward to the superdome to get in on this kickoff classic paper chase. If jerry can pay 2 teams a total of 9 mill he has to make at least 50 mill off that game. thanks to ole coach eddie rob the home and home matchups are all but gone now.
